Zepto Vendor Registration · India Quick Commerce
Register Your Brand on Zepto — Live in 14 to 21 Days
Zepto delivers in 10 minutes across 300+ dark stores in India's largest metros. We handle the vendor application, FSSAI/compliance setup, dark-store allocation, fill-rate planning, and the ongoing account management that separates Zepto winners from brands that ship one PO and disappear.
Introduction
The Zepto Opportunity in 2026
Zepto changed Indian e-commerce in 2021 by promising 10-minute grocery delivery — and actually shipping it. Five years later, the platform operates 300+ dark stores across Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Pune, Chennai, and 20+ smaller cities, with daily order volumes that put it head-to-head with Blinkit and Instamart for the metro quick-commerce throne. For FMCG, beauty, personal care, snacks, beverages, and impulse-purchase brands, getting onto Zepto is no longer optional — it is where India's urban Gen-Z and millennial buyers spend their grocery budget.
But quick commerce is structurally different from traditional marketplaces. Zepto doesn't list your SKUs on a webpage and wait for the buyer — it stocks your inventory in physical dark stores and ships in 10 minutes. That means: dark-store allocation matters more than search ranking. Fill rate (% of orders where your product is in stock) matters more than commission. Reorder velocity matters more than launch volume. Brands that win on Zepto think operationally — supply chain, demand forecasting, and category-level shelf positioning — not in marketplace-listing terms.
We've onboarded 150+ FMCG, grocery, personal care, and impulse brands to Zepto. The pattern across winners is consistent: they treat Zepto like a retail-distribution problem, not a digital marketplace. This page walks through Zepto's vendor approval process, dark-store strategy, fill-rate management, the category economics most agencies hide, and the post-launch playbook that determines whether your brand does ₹2L/month or ₹25L/month on the platform.
Eligibility
Which Brands Win on Zepto? (Category Reality Check)
Zepto's economics work for high-velocity, impulse-purchase categories. They do not work for slow-moving items, custom orders, or categories with shelf-life constraints that don't match dark-store turnover.
Eligible Categories
- •Beauty & personal care (skincare, haircare, makeup, fragrances)
- •Snacks, biscuits, namkeen, chocolates, confectionery
- •Beverages — juices, energy drinks, ready-to-drink coffee, sodas
- •Gourmet & imported foods, sauces, condiments, breakfast
- •Health & wellness — vitamins, supplements, protein, immunity
- •Pet food & accessories
- •Home cleaning & laundry products
- •Stationery, kids toys (limited categories)
- •Premium FMCG (D2C-native brands typically do best)
Not Accepted
- •Custom-order or made-to-order products (Zepto is stock-and-ship)
- •Fresh produce without cold-chain certification
- •Pharmaceuticals (require Tata 1mg / Netmeds — different compliance)
- •Items with shelf life < 30 days (dark-store turnover doesn't match)
- •Heavy or fragile items > 5 kg per SKU (logistics cost-prohibitive)
GSTIN
Mandatory — registered business entity (Pvt Ltd preferred for scale)
FSSAI License
Mandatory for food, beverage, supplement, and ingestible categories
EAN / Barcode
Every SKU needs a registered EAN — non-negotiable for dark-store inventory tracking
MRP labeling
Indian legal-metrology compliance: MRP must be physically printed on packaging
Min order quantity
Zepto orders inventory in MOQ tranches (typically ₹50K-2L per dark-store cluster). Be ready to fulfill from day 1.
Lead time commitment
Restock POs typically need to ship within 5-7 days. Brands with longer lead times struggle.
Pricing parity
Zepto expects MRP-honest pricing. Selling cheaper on your own D2C site or other quick-commerce platforms triggers re-negotiation.
Shelf-life documentation
Minimum 60-90 days remaining shelf life at time of dispatch to dark store

Approval Process
Zepto Vendor Approval Process — Step by Step
Zepto's process moves faster than traditional marketplaces (typically 14-21 days end to end) — but only if you come prepared. Here is exactly what happens at each step.
Vendor Application
Day 1Submit via Zepto's vendor portal with company details, category focus, expected SKU count, and starting cities. We package the application with category-fit positioning that increases approval likelihood.
Category Buyer Review
Day 2-4Zepto's category manager (Beauty / Personal Care / Snacks / Beverages / etc.) reviews brand-category fit. They check: brand strength, MRP positioning, packaging readiness, and existing distribution. Approval rate ~80% with us, ~50-60% for cold applications.
Commercial Discussion
Day 4-7Margin negotiation (12-25% commission), MOQ commitments, and dark-store cluster prioritization (Mumbai vs Delhi vs Bangalore first). We negotiate on behalf of clients — most brands accept Zepto's first offer and leave 4-6% margin on the table.
Compliance Verification
Day 5-10FSSAI, lab reports, EAN, MRP labeling — Zepto's compliance team verifies each. For supplements/ayurveda, this extends to 10-14 days due to ingredient-level review.
Pricing & Inventory Planning
Day 8-12Final MRP / selling price / Zepto margin locked. Initial PO (purchase order) size calculated based on category velocity benchmarks. We model unit economics — many brands accept POs without checking landed margin.
First PO Dispatch to Zepto DC
Day 10-14Your inventory ships to Zepto's central distribution center (not directly to dark stores). Zepto handles dark-store distribution from there. We help configure SKU labeling and packaging for Zepto's intake protocol.
Dark Store Onboarding
Day 13-17Zepto's operations team allocates SKUs to specific dark stores based on demographic fit. Beauty/premium SKUs prioritize South Mumbai, Indiranagar, Cyberhub, Saket; mass-market SKUs spread wider.
Listing Activation
Day 16-19SKUs go live on Zepto's app — visible only to users in dark-store catchment zones. We coordinate launch-day promotion to drive initial velocity.
First Week Optimization
Day 19-21Monitor fill rate, sell-through, and category ranking. Adjust pricing, pack-size, and ad spend based on first-week velocity data.
Realistic Timelines
Realistic Zepto Onboarding Timelines
Average end-to-end timelines based on the last 150 brands we've onboarded. Compliance-heavy categories take longer.

|---|---|---|
| Personal care / beauty (compliant brands) | 14-18 days | 12-14 days |
| Snacks, beverages, confectionery | 14-21 days | 12-16 days |
| Supplements / ayurveda / nutraceuticals | 21-30 days | 18-25 days |
| Imported / international FMCG | 21-28 days | 18-24 days |

What goes wrong
Why Brands Get Rejected by Zepto (And How We Pre-Empt)
Zepto rejects roughly 40% of organic applications. These are the patterns — most are operationally solvable.
Missing FSSAI for food/beverage
Non-negotiable. Apply 30-45 days ahead if you don't have central FSSAI yet.
Insufficient SKU velocity history
Zepto avoids slow movers in scarce dark-store shelf space. If your brand has < 6 months of D2C sales data, expect category buyer to ask for proof of demand.
MOQ unrealistic vs. lead time
Zepto orders ₹50K-2L per dark-store cluster. If your production lead time is 30+ days, restocks fall behind — brand ends up out-of-stock often, fill rate crashes, listings deprioritized.
MRP not printed on packaging
Legal-metrology compliance. Sticker labels are NOT accepted. Re-package before applying.
Pricing parity broken with own D2C site
Selling at ₹399 on your site and ₹499 to Zepto fails MRP-honesty check.
Pack-size mismatch with dark-store economics
Zepto's basket AOV is ₹250-500. A ₹1500 single-SKU product moves slowly. Premium brands often need a smaller pack-size SKU as the dark-store hero.
Shelf life too short
Less than 60-90 days remaining at dispatch and Zepto will not stock. Plan production cycles accordingly.
Commission & Economics
Zepto Commission, Logistics & Unit Economics
Quick commerce economics differ fundamentally from listing marketplaces — Zepto buys inventory, holds it, and resells. Your number is the margin you give Zepto.
| Category | Commission | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Beauty & personal care (premium) | 22-28% | Highest margin category — Zepto's hero category |
| Beauty & personal care (mass) | 18-24% | Volume play |
| Snacks & confectionery | 15-20% | Tight margin, high velocity |
| Beverages (RTD, juices) | 12-18% | Lowest commission, lowest AOV |
| Health & wellness, supplements | 20-26% | Mid-premium tier |
| Gourmet & imported foods | 22-28% | Premium positioning supports higher margin |
| Home care, laundry, cleaning | 14-18% | Volume + repeat purchase model |
| Pet food & accessories | 20-25% | Growing category, decent margins |
Catalog & Photography
Zepto Catalog & Photography Standards
Zepto's app-screen real estate is tight (mobile-first, 2-3 thumbnails per row). Photography must read clearly at small sizes.
Image Rules
- →Minimum 3 angles per SKU: front pack (hero), back-label (ingredients/MRP visible), lifestyle
- →PNG or JPEG ≥ 1500px on shortest side
- →Plain white or transparent background for front pack image
- →Pack must read clearly at 200px thumbnail size — bold brand name, prominent product type
- →Lifestyle image showing use-case or ingredient (e.g., for snacks: hand reaching into the pack; for skincare: applied on hand)
- →Optional but recommended: 1 short video per hero SKU (15-30 seconds)
Content Rules
- →Title: brand + product type + key variant + pack size (e.g., 'XYZ Almonds — Roasted & Salted — 200g')
- →Description: 80-150 words covering taste, ingredients, use-case, and key differentiator
- →Ingredients: full disclosure for FSSAI compliance (top-3 ingredients prominent)
- →Nutrition panel: image of physical nutrition panel uploaded alongside front pack
- →Pack size variants: separate SKUs for 100g, 200g, 500g — each with its own EAN
- →Pricing: MRP + selling price + Zepto-discount-band (Zepto sometimes runs platform-wide 5-15% discounts on category)
Returns & Settlement
Returns, Wastage & Payment Cycles on Zepto
Zepto returns are unusual compared to listing marketplaces — because the platform buys inventory upfront, returns are mostly handled platform-side. If a customer rejects an item on delivery (rare on quick commerce), Zepto absorbs the return and reconciles with you at month-end. Damage rates run 1-3% of dispatched inventory — Zepto absorbs minor damage, brands absorb significant damage (typically > 3% of any shipment, negotiable).
Settlement cycle is T+15 to T+30 days from PO acceptance, depending on negotiated terms. New brands typically start at T+30 and earn T+15 after 3-6 months of clean sales velocity. We negotiate this aggressively for clients hitting category sell-through targets.
Wastage and expiry: Zepto's dark-store turnover means most SKUs sell through in 2-4 weeks. But for slow-moving SKUs, Zepto deprioritizes shelf space and your inventory ages. We monitor sell-through weekly and proactively recommend pack-size, pricing, or category-mix adjustments before SKUs hit the expiry-risk zone.
Post-launch growth
Post-Launch: Scaling on Zepto
1. Fill Rate Discipline: Fill rate (% of orders where your product is in stock) determines whether Zepto keeps stocking you. Above 95% fill rate, Zepto increases your dark-store coverage; below 85% they reduce it. We build production calendars 8-12 weeks ahead with safety stock buffers — fill rate is the single most important post-launch metric.
2. Dark Store Expansion: New brands typically launch in 30-50 dark stores. Hitting category-velocity benchmarks unlocks expansion to 100-200 dark stores. The brands that grow fastest are the ones that nail Mumbai/Delhi/Bangalore first, then scale outward.
3. Brand Days & Sale Events: Zepto runs ~12 platform-wide sales per year (Republic Day, Holi, Diwali, Black Friday equivalent). Plus brand-specific "Brand Day" placements available for premium partners. We coordinate inventory pre-build, ad budget, and sale-day promotions.
4. Performance Marketing (Zepto Ads): Zepto's in-app ads platform launched in 2024 and is still cheap compared to Amazon. We run category-keyword campaigns ('protein powder', 'face wash') and product-promo campaigns. Typical ROAS: 3-5x for premium beauty, 2-3x for snacks/beverages.
5. Pack Architecture: The single biggest lever — having the right pack sizes. A premium brand selling only 200ml SKUs often plateaus because Zepto's basket AOV is ₹250-500; a 75ml or 100ml SKU as the dark-store hero unlocks volume. We help map pack architecture every quarter.
6. New City Launch Strategy: Zepto adds 2-4 new cities every quarter. Brands that opt-in early (with stock-ready confirmation) get prime category placement in new cities for the first 30-60 days. Free traffic if you're ready.
