AJIO Registration Is a Reliance Process — Not a Marketplace Process

AJIO is a Reliance Retail operation. The brand registration cycle runs through the Reliance Vendor Portal (the same backend that serves Trends, Reliance Smart, and other Reliance retail formats), not a marketplace-style seller onboarding flow. That single fact changes everything about the registration cycle — KYC has Reliance-specific validation rules, the Vendor Code (a master brand identifier) is issued by Reliance category managers and not a marketplace product team, and catalog uploads happen via Excel + image FTP rather than a self-serve web UI.

Brands that try to register self-serve usually fail at the Vendor Code step. Reliance's category managers have a different bar than a marketplace product team — they care about price banding, store-fit (where in the Reliance retail format the brand could plausibly live), and operating capability (can the brand fulfil POs on schedule). We run this end-to-end and have shipped 350+ AJIO approvals.

Process below is what we do on every brief. Average cycle from kick-off to live SKUs: 10–15 working days. Vendor Code typically issued by Day 8–10.

Our 5-Step AJIO Registration Process

  1. 1

Day 1–2: Vendor Portal Account Creation

KYC + GST + PAN + bank validated against Reliance backend. We catch validation mismatches that would block Vendor Code issuance later.

  2. 2

    Day 3–5: Trademark + Documentation

TM packaging finalized. Brand-authorization letters drafted if needed.

  3. 3

Day 6–8: Category Fit Review + Vendor Code

Reliance category managers review brand fit. We negotiate the Vendor Code on the brand's behalf.

  4. 4

    Day 9–12: Catalog Upload

First-wave 10-SKU catalog uploaded via Excel + image FTP. Reliance QC team reviews.

  5. 5

    Day 13–15: Test PO + Go-Live

AJIO raises a test PO. Brand dispatches against the first ASN. SKUs go live on the AJIO platform.

Streetwear

Vendor Code in 8 days

A streetwear brand had been stuck for 4 months trying to get a Vendor Code self-serve.

Result: We re-packaged the application with the right category-manager framing. Vendor Code issued on Day 8. Live with 14 SKUs by Day 13.

Mid-Priced Ethnic

Approval after AJIO Luxe rejection

A mid-priced ethnic brand applied for AJIO Luxe and was rejected. They didn't know the mainline AJIO track existed.

Founder Insight — The Vendor Code Is The Gate

Every other step in AJIO registration is solvable through paperwork. The Vendor Code is solvable only through Reliance category-manager judgement. That's why brands routinely sit at "application submitted" for 60–120 days self-serve, then suddenly get a Vendor Code when an agency or distributor with the right relationship picks up the file.

The Vendor Code isn't a rubber stamp. The Reliance category team is genuinely choosing whether the brand makes sense across AJIO + Trends + the broader Reliance retail format. Brands that frame the application as "we belong in this category and here's why" get a Vendor Code. Brands that submit raw KYC and hope get parked.
